New York Noir
Lanny Medlin's Albums > New York Noir
I recently spent time going over the images that I took on those two trips. Images that in some cases had a ‘film noir’ atmosphere; dark, unsettling, questioning. There were images of entertainment and art being created in unusual venues. Windows that offered out of the ordinary wares, windows of mystery, doors to the unknown. There were street scenes of varied, almost incompatible cultures. There were images of stalwart statues overlooking the crowds and some offering comfort with an outstretched hand as to protect. As I drank in the sights, I saw angles, patterns, conflicts: Reflections of mystery. There were times that I would be walking in a ‘megatropolis’ with building reaching to the clouds and within minutes be wandering down a secluded wooded path. New York is a city where size and scale are unreliable measures, there were clouds that dwarf the city and artwork that dominates the buildings and the people.

I have chosen some of the images for this showcase and I hope you enjoy.
