Here is the revised and expanded "Elvis in East Texas." I have added a lot of material and photographs. My intentions are to focus on the, little covered, events in the very beginnings of Elvis's career. The Texas Tour of late '54 and '55 is, almost, completely ignored by historians. I want to give credit to teenagers of East Texas, without whom Elvis may have never become a superstar. Promoters, publicist, managers, didn't know what to do with Elvis, they didn't know what musical box to put him in. When they tried they failed. But, when they just let Elvis be himself he connected with the people on a different level than musicians before him. Texans tend to be nonjudgemental in their love of music. Texans take pride in their independence and if they like a song, it needs no justification.
