This is a revision of an album I published earlier. On a 2006 trip to New York City I gave myself a self-assignment; to concentrate on the people of the City. As a general rule, I am not a “people” photographer. To me the place is the subject and people support the subject. On this trip I wanted to incorporate people more as the subject. This meant that I needed to learn new skills, because people-photography calls for a more “in-your-face” approach, while not being offensive or intrusive. This also called for approaching people, engaging them in conversation, and asking their permission to photograph them.
